Description / EasiCoop Goutheque (Gothic) Chicken Coop

With ample room for up to 10 medium-sized chickens (or up to 20 bantams, if you’re really aiming to expand the family!), the EasiCoop Gothic Chicken Coop is a beautiful, spacious coop designed for easy access and easy cleaning.

This coop is fitted with two large perches, two nest boxes, a vertical sliding door (pre-drilled to allow for an automatic chicken guard, if you so wish), and a hinged roof for fuss-free cleaning. This product is perfect if you have a good amount of grassy, backyard space, and want to provide a comfortable home for your chickens.

What’s great about keeping chickens?

One of the most popular reasons for keeping your own chickens is for better food; if you choose to raise your bird humanely and organically, you will find fresher meat and eggs that simply can’t be beaten by supermarket products that you can’t trace and have no idea what kind of treatment the chickens have received. This also adds an educational aspect for adults and children alike, as the whole family can learn where their food comes from and how food supply works.

On top of this, you can drastically reduce your household waste, through not only supply of your own fresh food, but through feeding food scraps to your chickens that would generally go to landfill. If you’re interested in growing your own fruits and vegetables too, chickens produce an extremely nutrient-dense fertiliser that can be used across your garden – yet another added benefit of having chickens around.

What are the differences between chickens?

Those new to raising chickens may hear terms like ‘hybrid’ or ‘bantam’ chicken; all this means is the difference in size. Bantam chickens tend to be smaller than standard of hybrid chickens. This coop, for example, can house 10 medium-sized chickens, while up to 15-20 bantams would fit spaciously. There are also ‘Purebred’ and ‘Heritage’ chickens, which tend to be slightly bigger and are sometimes deemed better for laying quality eggs.

What’s the difference between a perch and a nest box?

Perches are designed with two main purposes – to give your chickens more exercise, and to protect them at night from other animals, such as snakes or rodents. Nest boxes are placed lower down in the coop, and are made to protect the nests and keep them free from dirt and droppings.

How to look after chickens?

Raising chickens is actually relatively simple, but there are ways to ensure your chickens stay happy and healthy. Feeding and giving fresh, clean drinking water is required daily, ensuring any feeders or water bowls are thoroughly sanitised (full sanitisation should be done at least once a month). Other monthly tasks include freshening up the nest boxes and bedding, removing droppings or broken eggs, and laying new bedding material. It’s also good to observe your chickens regularly, checking their feathers are smooth, their eyes are bright, and their demeanour is good. Every few months (or if your flock gets a disease), your coops should be thoroughly deep cleaned to avoid infections and mites. To ensure maximum egg freshness, collect any eggs laid daily.
